AIR CARBON ARC GOUGING

Welders Supplies logoIn carbon arc gouging an electric arc is generated between the tip of a carbon electrode and the work piece.  The metal becomes molten and is blown away by a high velocity air jet that streams down the electrode leaving a clean groove. Air carbon arc gouging has a high metal removal rate and the gouge profile can be closely controlled.  The air jet causes molten metal to be ejected over a large distance and because of the high currents of up to 2000 amps and air pressures of 80 to 100 psi, it can be quite noisy.  Processes include hand held or customized automation.  As in all welding, cutting or metal finishing, proper safety wear is essential.

TRAINING

Our technical and customer service representatives recently completed a full day of hands on training on weld filler metals.  The training consisted of 7018 stick electrode, 71T-1 flux cored wire and metal cored wire.  At Welders Supplies we fell it is imperative to train our sales staff extensively, so that they are better able to understand the products we sell to our customers.  Training is expensive but we feel it is essential to remain current in our understanding of the welding, cutting and metal finishing industry.

welding tip of the dayA 'Welding Tip of the Day" is brought to you from our Technical Representatives ...

The best feeding of aluminum wire is done with a spool gun.  If you canít use a spool gun, use the shortest gun possible and keep the gun as straight as possible.  Use only argon shielding gas.  Use a push gun technique when welding aluminum.
